Preview of Chapter 1: A sneak preview inside the mind of The Editor

The Editor Talks to his minions, the backspaces and the virgules:

I’ve always thought of God as a writer. We think He has complete control of the universe; but does that mean He can do whatever He wants? For starters, it has to have a law; it has to have laws -- that can be broken. The world must be capable of conflict.

Who would want to have a perfect boring world? A perfect world is useless to a writer.

So I will create conflict.

Then I will fix that conflict.

Then I will establish the perfect system, to create the perfect world.

I know what you think. Yes.

I am going to play the part of God and the Devil.

Some Updates:

I've reedited some of the drawings in the previous posts. Feel free to check it out.

I'm currently working on about 6-8 pages of the prologue, which (hopefully) will be up by Friday. I'm also excited about drawing the next few pages of the graphic novel chapter 1 and 2 for the entire Volume 1 collection. I've made a goal of 30 pages for the first volume.

XD Mann Graphic Novel Character Drawings *updated*

Here's the first two character pages. It took me about 5 hours sitting in front of my PC to finalize the design of the characters. Some of the influence came from watchmen. XD

I've updated the Character Descriptions, and redesigned a little of the second page.

XD Mann Graphic Novel: Characters

Characters:

In a world where words are people, one man is about to change the world.

XD Mann: XD had always been secluded in the Superhero community mainly because he’s an emoticon; a fake, because with two symbols X and a D he can generate a smile, without really needing to express his real emotions. Most people see this as empty. As a result he’s always the loner and never the team player. Nobody knows for sure why he chose the symbol; maybe it was to never betray his real intentions. In real conversations he rarely smiles. He’s a very skilled martial artist and he never hesitates.

The Exclamation Point: (Deceased) EP was one of the most active superheroes in the community. Where he fights, buildings explode, mass murderers get executed in pretty nasty ways, and enemies always die from multiple injuries. He’s also the one with the biggest pride, and he doesn’t always get to the point.

Plus: Like the Plus symbol, she brings out the best from people she works with, though not in a motivating you can do it kind of way. She intimidates other heroes so much; a hero would be forced to bring out his best to the table. Ever since EP died, she grows crankier everyday.

Licorice: LICK as some people call him, have the best power no one would ever want. He can read everyone’s past living or dead with the use of his tongue. As a result he’s the world’s greatest Forensics expert. But nobody ever want to kiss him. Alcoholic. He secretly loves all women.

The Idea: Somebody once said, “Ideas are Bulletproof.” (V from Vendetta) so there you go; he’s bulletproof. But most of the time he’s plain stupid.

Question Mark: He believes the best way to find the truth is to ask the right questions. Everything else about him is a question mark.

Editor: He calls himself a ‘revolutionary’ that would change the world and he’s not afraid to sacrifice people along the way. He believes that evil people tarnishes his great society. He started with killing innocent commas and periods that doesn’t belong in their respective place. The Exclamation Point was his first great murder.

XD Mann Graphic Novel

This is the Cover for my Graphic Novel XD.

In a world where words are people. A serial Killer who calls himself the Editor killed The Exclamation Point. Now XD and his team of superheroes must find the killer before Editor Kills Them

If only the Exclamation Point knew this was his last crusade. He would have gone with a bang.

The Daily Literature opened with the headline:

! KILLED BY FAMOUS SERIAL KILLER: EDITOR.

If the XD had been more emotional, He could’ve cried. The Exclamation Point or EP, as he called himself, was one amazing superhero. Sure he’s got a tendency to be a bit annoying sometimes.

But he was the best at what he did.

“He calls Greg, as he enters the Bloomberg Factory,” said Licorice. Licorice’s eyelids flickered as the vision ran through his head. The ecstasy made him forget how he had acquired the vision in the first place.

“Who’s Greg?” Mark said.

“Hold your questions, Question.” Plus said. By the tone of her voice she seemed annoyed, but Licorice can’t determine if it was because of the Question Mark or because she wasn’t quite used to how he had gained his current vision.

“…he is looking at a boy. He is chained and looks afraid.” Licorice continued. “He forces the kid to tell him where the wares are. The kid shakes, pisses in his shorts. The kid only chatters. ‘Damn it!’ The Exclamation Point says.”

“EP turns around, and the boy mumbles. He says, ‘a) The boy bit the dog, b) the boy was bit by the dog, c) the dog bit the boy, d) the dog was bit by the boy’”

“EP asks the boy, ‘what the hell is this?’” Licorice continued, his hands gripped his chair tightly.

“The boy laughs maddeningly. He screams ‘which is right?’”

“EP laughs. Of course its C dimwit.”

“’Wrong’ another voice says, a much deeper voice, like an adult’s. EP turns around. Someone throws liquid in his face. The liquid smells of blood. ‘A) The boy bit the dog!’ He wipes his visor. The kid lunges at him from behind. It bites his neck; tears his leather suit. EP elbows him. And throws him in mid-air, then giving him a roundhouse kick in the ribs, he could feel the kid’s rib crack.”

“Flashy as always,” said Plus, her tone a bit bitter. From what Licorice knew, they were secret lovers.

“But the kid is standing again, like he wasn’t hurt. The Exclamation Point looks around; he cannot find the other man anywhere. The kid jumps at him, his mouth almost feral and bloody. EP catches the kid’s right temple with a powerful hook punch. A sharp pain surges forth in his knuckles. The kid falls down, unconscious.”

“He checks the kid, looking for a clue as to what made him a monster. His vision blurs for a moment. He touches his neck, he looks at his hand and sees blood. ‘Poison’ he mutters. He sees shadow in front of him, a knife plunges deep in his throat—“

“Stop!” Plus said. “We all know what happened to him now.” Licorice looked at her, looking for any signs of tears, but there wasn’t. For a moment he thought about him having even the tiniest chance of getting together with her. Not a chance, he thought.

“Any clues to his killer?” Mark said, “Is it really the same Editor?”

“He always used his monsters before. It’s the first time we’ve seen even a shadow of him.” Licorice said.

“Three questions, who’s Greg? What are the wares EP’s looking for? And what the hell is he doing there in the first place.” Question Mark asked.

Flight of Parthenophe- Justice is Blind

For four days she sat there, rocking herself back and forth. Her eyes unmoving—staring at the almost dilapidated house across the street; hidden behind the painted windows, where a fierce yellow light shone through its scratched surface. Mishna, her cousin, was stoned to death for being discovered pregnant nine days before.

At first she saw it with contempt. In fact even hating her, how could she give it away? But her cousin Abdul Mueed began to set his eyes on her, and she is afraid. Aalia doesn’t hear the growls of her stomach nor does she notice the weakening of her limbs. She rocked herself faster, hoping— for deliverance.

Her cousin, Mueed, arrives today.

“How long will she last, my sister?” Apemosyne said to the young woman covered in burqa.

“Not long… did you bring the eyes?”  Parthenophe replied.

“Yes, but we your sisters—we miss you. Ever since our husband died some of us has grown weary of life. You were his favorite—and it is not without a good reason.” She handed her a dark pouch wrapped with silver chains.

“Hush, my dear sister. For millennia’s I have tarried with thee. And now that He is d—” she stopped herself. “--Gone, my freedom is much needed.” Parthenophe said, turning to her sister, her eyes revealed a thousand mingling of crystalline colors, like the reflection of the sun in a flowing river.

“But this girl? Parthenophe, she is nothing to you.” Apemosyne said.

“How could you say that my dear sister? You who have been kicked to death by thy own brother? The Gods have left this world in ruin, and now I, being given to be one will not stay and let it all perish. Even the God of Palestine has forsaken this land.”

Apemosyne stared in her sister’s eyes, seeing the firmness of it, finally surrendered. “That’s why you have always been his favorite.” She kissed Parthenophe on her forehead and she was gone.

Aalia struggled to remember her prayers. Mueed stood behind her, stroking her shoulders. Her knees trembled, and the sweat of her neck ran down her bosom. “You look weak Aalia,” he whispered.

Suddenly the cattle and the sheep made noise, too much for Mueed to ignore. He cursed and went outside.

“Great Allah,” Aalia whimpered.

“You need a new God.” A young girl, wrapped in burqa, with strange crystalline eyes, said through the window.

“I do not deal with the devil.” She said.

“I am not the devil, I merely offer justice.” The wondrous creature said.

“Then if my soul is not at stake, please help me then, oh kind One.”

Parthenophe smiled. “Then I may need something in return.”

Aalia’s vision now reduced to darkness. But her heart swelled—not with joy—but with something much sweeter. She stroked her cousin’s now cold marble skin. “Nothing’s going to hurt me now,” she told her newly made friends as the snakes hissed and swirled upon her head.
